Weekly Round-Up: Commercial Cannabis Updates across CA

This week RFPs are out for Commercial Cannabis Business Permits in Nevada County, and grants for California municipalities in support of California’s Cannabis Equity Act.

In other Cannabis Business news, a new Retailer (Storefront) Fact Sheet was released by the Bureau of Cannabis Control (BCC), and changes are also brewing in El Dorado County.

Nevada County

Starting March 1st, Commercial Cannabis permit applicants can make appointments with Nevada County Community Development Agency staff for Administrative Development and Commercial Cannabis Permits. Appointments will start Monday March 4, 2019 at 8:00am on a first come, first served basis. Appointments are for COMPLETE submittals only.

A Commercial Cannabis Permit (CCP) is available for cultivation canopies less than or equal to 2,500 sq. ft. A Cannabis Administrative Development Permit (ADP) is available for cultivation canopies between 2,501 sq. ft – 10,000 sq. ft. ADP and CCP packets are available online or at the CDA office at 950 Maidu Ave in Nevada City.

Appointments to submit an application can be made by contacting the Nevada County CDA at (530)265-1222 or in person at the CDA main office.

California Cannabis Equity Grant Program

The Bureau of Cannabis Control (BCC) is pleased to announce the availability of funding authorized by The California Cannabis Equity Act of 2018. The Equity Act allows for direct assistance to local jurisdictions’ commercial cannabis equity programs that provide assistance to local equity applicants or local equity licensees. The Bureau has been allocated $10 million for the grants. Find more information on the process here.

To apply for grant funding, a local jurisdiction must submit an application as well as required documentation. To be eligible for grant funds, all applications must be submitted no later than April 1, 2019. The application must be completed in one session. There is no “Save” feature to allow the partial completion with final completion at a later time. Links to pertinent information are provided below:

BCC Issues New Retailer (Storefront) Fact Sheet

To clarify current state requirements for Retailer Storefronts, the BCC issued a new Fact Sheet on February 28th. You can access this fact sheet here.

El Dorado County

The El Dorado County Ad hoc Cannabis Committee has recommended the Board of Supervisors give conceptual approval to create new ordinances for the commercial cannabis business types of manufacturing, nurseries, and testing laboratories. A vote on the recommendation is on the agenda for the 3/5/2019 Board of Supervisors meeting.
