Marina, California

Big news from Marina, California: the commercial cannabis license application opens today, April 8.

The city will release three medicinal dispensary permits, three adult-use dispensary permits, and an undetermined number of non-dispensary permits. This is a four-phase application process that starts by applying for a zoning letter from the city (which can take up to 15 business days to receive).

Los Angeles, California

Los Angeles has decided to authorize Phase 2 applicants who have not yet received Temporary Approval to relocate their business premises under “extenuating circumstances.”

Extenuating circumstances are defined as situations such as:

“an applicant has lost the ability to continue its application at its current business premises, including due to some adverse action by a landlord, such as reneging on a lease agreement or restricting an applicant’s access to or control over the business premises. Extenuating circumstances do not include an applicant’s preference to move to a more desirable business premises or an applicant’s evaluation that its current business premises is too costly to take through the licensing process.”

If you are a Phase 2 applicant who wishes to apply for a relocation request, submit a Relocation Request Form to DCR’s office by 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2019.

West Hollywood, California

West Hollywood announced a new business tax – the Cannabis Business Tax.

This tax applies to gross receipts from the sale of adult-use cannabis and cannabis products at a rate of 7.5%. It does not apply to the sale of medical cannabis or medical cannabis products.
