What We Do
Tax, Audit, and CFO Services in the Bay Area
Most Bay Area clients come to us for one of three reasons: a tax return or position that needs planning, an audit a lender, investor, or customer requires, or books that need a real finance team. As a full-service Bay Area CPA firm, GreenGrowth covers all three with a dedicated lead for each line.
Tax Planning and Compliance
Business and individual tax preparation, year-round planning, California and multi-state filings, and San Francisco business tax returns. Positions get modeled before year end, when timing still moves the number.

San Francisco Business Tax
What Changed Under Proposition M
Proposition M took effect January 1, 2025 and changed who files, how receipts get sourced, and which rates apply. Companies based elsewhere in the Bay can still owe the tax when they sell into the city.
| The rule | How it works now | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Small business exemption | Most businesses with $5 million or less in San Francisco gross receipts skip the Gross Receipts Tax return, up from a $2.25 million ceiling. | Confirm whether you now fall under the line, and keep the annual registration renewal on the calendar. |
| Business categories | The city cut its business activity categories from 14 to 7, and each category carries its own rates. | Map every revenue stream to the right category before the rate gets applied. |
| Apportionment | Most industries now source receipts 75% by sales and 25% by payroll, replacing the older payroll-heavy formulas. | Rebuild the sourcing calculation from your sales data, since last year's method no longer carries over. |
| Homelessness Gross Receipts Tax | This additional tax now applies to businesses with San Francisco gross receipts above $25 million, down from $50 million. | Model the added layer early for growing companies approaching the new threshold. |
| Filing calendar | Annual returns come due the last day of February, with estimated payments on April 30, July 31, and October 31. | Build every date into the close so estimates land on time without a scramble. |

Small Business CPA in San Rafael and Marin
Owners look for a small business CPA in San Rafael when tax software stops being enough: payroll gets added, a second entity appears, or the bank asks for financial statements. That is usually the moment a real firm pays for itself.
Local engagements cover monthly bookkeeping, business and owner returns prepared by the same team, entity structure decisions, and financial statements a lender will accept. Marin clients can meet at the Civic Center Drive office or work fully remote.
One conversation scopes it. Schedule a free consultation and bring your last return.
Proposition M Changed Who Files
Some San Francisco businesses stopped filing. Others started owing more. If nobody has rerun your numbers under the new rules, now is the time.
