Our Story
Cannabis Accounting Since 2016. Everything Else Came After.
GreenGrowth CPAs was founded in 2016, when cannabis was federally Schedule I, most banks would not open an account for a licensed operator, and the majority of accounting firms treated the industry as a liability question rather than a client base. We took the work anyway.
There was no playbook, so we wrote one. We built cannabis-specific chart of accounts templates, cost of goods sold allocation methodologies that hold up under IRC 280E scrutiny, and audit protocols for operators whose inventory is tracked seed to sale under state track-and-trace systems. Those methodologies are still the backbone of the practice, built on live engagements, under audit, before anyone had written the guidance.
From cannabis specialty to full-service CPA firmThe skills transferred. An industry where the rules change mid-year, regulators are watching, and margins are thin describes a great deal more than cannabis. Today GreenGrowth serves more than 1,500 clients across cannabis, technology, real estate, life sciences, nonprofits, professional services, school districts, governmental organizations, and high net worth individuals.
We are an AICPA member firm, which subjects our work to peer review, and a PCAOB registered public accounting firm, which means we audit publicly listed companies ourselves instead of referring that work out. We are also a member of the AICPA Governmental Audit Quality Center and the AICPA Employee Benefit Plan Audit Quality Center, and we hold CPA firm registrations in eight states. Holding all of that is uncommon for a firm our size. It is also the reason clients come to us when the accounting question has no textbook answer and the cost of the wrong one is high.
What We Do
Tax, Accounting, Audit, and CFO Services Under One Roof.
Most accounting relationships break at the handoff. Your tax preparer cannot audit you. Your auditor is not allowed to advise you. Your bookkeeper does not talk to either one, and nobody owns the whole picture until something goes wrong. GreenGrowth runs tax, accounting, audit and assurance, and outsourced CFO inside one firm, so the people who built your books are the people who defend them.
That covers representing clients before the IRS and state agencies, preparing audit-ready financial statements for lenders, investors, and public listings, and building the accounting infrastructure underneath both.
Tax planning and compliance covers multi-state filings, extension deadlines, and representation when the IRS or a state agency comes back with questions. Audit and assurance covers PCAOB engagements for listed issuers, single audits under Uniform Guidance, employee benefit plan audits, and Yellow Book work for school districts and public agencies. Outsourced CFO puts a finance leader inside your business for forecasting, cash flow planning, and the board-level reporting lenders and investors expect, without the cost of a full-time hire.
CPA Services We Provide
GreenGrowth Buys CPA Firms. Buyer, Not Broker.
If you are planning retirement, consolidating, or stepping back from practice ownership, GreenGrowth CPAs acquires accounting practices directly. There is no broker in the middle, no commission taken out of your proceeds, and no auction process that puts your firm in front of a dozen strangers.
We are a working CPA firm, not a holding company. That matters for what happens after close. Your clients move into a practice with tax, accounting, audit and assurance, and outsourced CFO capability in house, and your staff join a firm that is hiring across eight offices rather than one cutting to hit a return target.
Your clients keep working with a full-service CPA firm rather than being distributed or dropped. Transition timing is set around your busy season, not ours.
We are acquiring capability, not just a client list. Your team is part of what we are buying, and we plan for where they land before anything is signed.
Nothing goes to your clients, your staff, or the market without your agreement. Early conversations are exploratory and carry no obligation.

Our Values
What GreenGrowth Stands For. Four Values We Actually Use.
Every firm publishes values. These four are the ones that come up in GreenGrowth's internal reviews, which is the only honest test of whether a value is a value or a poster.
Ownership
We own outcomes, not tasks. In practice that means the person who prepared your return is the person who answers for it, and you never get handed to someone who has to be caught up first.
Teamwork
No single accountant knows 280E, Yellow Book audits, and multi-state nexus at the same depth. Our engagements are staffed so the specialist who needs to be in the room is in the room, without you having to ask for them by name.
Technical Accuracy
In this profession the gap between correct and nearly correct is measured in penalties, amended returns, and restated financials. We treat accuracy as the floor rather than the achievement, which is why we submit to AICPA peer review instead of avoiding it.
Communication
Most accounting problems get expensive in the silence between people who should have been talking. We would rather send the uncomfortable email in March than explain the consequence of it in October.

Client Feedback
What Clients Say About GreenGrowth CPAs.
Clients choose GreenGrowth CPAs for accuracy, clarity, and long-term advisory support.
★★★★★
Great team of highly qualified professionals dedicated to outstanding customer service. In an industry that can be somewhat like the wild west due to its lack of maturity and evolving standards, it was refreshing to work with a team that does things by the book where others may cut corners. If peace of mind is important to you, your employees, and the future of your business, I recommend the team at GreenGrowth.
David Spence
★★★★★
GreenGrowth CPAs knock it out of the park with their service. They provide loads of knowledge and practice to streamline your business. They are always willing to meet and discuss any issues or even help with a game plan on how to approach different verticals within the industry. Any time I bring new people on board, they are impressed with the quality and information that GreenGrowth brings to the table.

★★★★★
Their attention to detail and holistic approach has made them a high-quality firm for a reasonable price. They have been key in helping us develop our cannabis business and also an accounting infrastructure where our former firm had failed. Derek has so much experience with non-profit work that he is also good communicating with not only multiple members of the team, but also board members at their level of accounting expertise. We will gladly endorse them for their good work.

Who founded GreenGrowth CPAs?
GreenGrowth CPAs was founded by Derek Davis in 2016, who continues to lead the firm as Chief Executive Officer. Marko Glisic serves as a Partner at the firm. When was GreenGrowth CPAs founded?
GreenGrowth CPAs was founded in 2016. The firm began by serving the emerging legal cannabis industry at a time when most established accounting firms declined that work, and has since expanded into technology, real estate, life sciences, nonprofits, professional services, school districts, governmental organizations, and private client services. The firm now has over 65 years of combined professional experience across its team.

Is GreenGrowth CPAs AICPA and PCAOB registered?
Yes. GreenGrowth CPAs is a member firm of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and is registered with the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) under Firm ID 6580. PCAOB registration allows the firm to perform audits of publicly listed companies, including cannabis multi-state operators listed on the Canadian Securities Exchange and traded on OTC markets, without referring that work to another firm. GreenGrowth is also a member of the AICPA Governmental Audit Quality Center and the AICPA Employee Benefit Plan Audit Quality Center.
What licenses and registrations does GreenGrowth CPAs hold?
GreenGrowth CPAs is registered with the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board under Firm ID 6580, and is a member firm of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. How many clients does GreenGrowth CPAs have?

Does GreenGrowth CPAs work with clients outside California?
Yes. GreenGrowth serves clients nationwide and internationally. Engagements are delivered through secure document exchange, a client portal, and regular video check-ins, so clients do not need to be located near a GreenGrowth office. The firm's international offices in Belgrade and Buenos Aires support cross-border capabilities for clients with operations outside the United States.
Does GreenGrowth CPAs acquire other accounting firms?
Yes. GreenGrowth CPAs acquires accounting practices directly from owners who are retiring, consolidating, or stepping back from firm ownership. GreenGrowth is the buyer rather than a broker, so there is no intermediary commission and no auction process. Acquired clients gain access to a full-service firm with tax, accounting, audit and assurance, and outsourced CFO capability in house, and staff are retained as part of the firm's growth across its eight offices. Conversations are confidential and nothing is communicated to a seller's clients or staff without their agreement. Owners considering a sale or succession can start a confidential conversation through the CPA firm succession planning page.
