Get Started See What We DoGreenGrowth CPAs is a Texas CPA firm registered with the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy, serving businesses, owners, and individuals across Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin, San Antonio, and the rest of the state. Engagements run remotely on shared systems, in Central time, backed by a national team of specialists.
Texas has no personal income tax, but that is not the end of the story. Most LLCs and corporations still owe the state an annual franchise tax report, due May 15. For 2026 and 2027 reports, entities at or under $2.65 million in annualized revenue owe no franchise tax, yet they must still file a Public Information Report or Ownership Information Report.
The firm also audits Texas school districts. TEA rules require a district's audit firm to belong to the AICPA Governmental Audit Quality Center, and GreenGrowth CPAs is a member, alongside its PCAOB registration under Firm ID 6580. Call (800) 674-9050 or start online, and we will route you to the right practice lead.

The Tax Picture
What a Texas Business Actually Owes
No income tax gets the headlines, but four other obligations do the work. Owners who assume Texas is tax-free find out at the first notice, which is the expensive way to find out.
| The obligation | How it works | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Texas franchise tax | A tax on taxable margin at 0.75%, or 0.375% for retailers and wholesalers, with a 0.331% EZ computation option up to $20 million in revenue. | Run every margin method and the EZ option, then file whichever costs least. |
| No-tax-due threshold | Entities at or under $2.65 million in annualized revenue owe no franchise tax for 2026 and 2027 reports, while an information report is still required. | File the Public Information Report or Ownership Information Report on time, every year. |
| Sales and use tax | Texas charges 6.25% statewide, and local jurisdictions can add up to 2% for a combined maximum of 8.25%. | Rates mapped to where each sale happens, with returns filed on the schedule the Comptroller assigns. |
| Federal and multi-state tax | No state income tax means federal returns carry the weight, while sales into other states can create filings there. | Federal planning plus a nexus review, then filings only in the states that need them. |
School Districts
School District Audits in Texas
Texas Education Code §44.008 requires every school district to have its fiscal accounts audited annually, at district expense, by a certified public accountant holding a permit from the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy. The board-approved report goes to TEA no later than 150 days after fiscal year end.
That puts the deadline at November 27 for a June 30 fiscal year and January 28 for an August 31 fiscal year, with no extension when the date lands on a weekend. TEA rules under 19 TAC §109.23 also require the audit firm to belong to the AICPA Governmental Audit Quality Center, and GreenGrowth CPAs is a member.
Annual Financial and Compliance Report
The audit of the AFR your district files with TEA, performed under generally accepted auditing standards and government auditing standards, and delivered with the board calendar in mind.
Single Audits of Federal Funds
When federal spending crosses the Uniform Guidance threshold, the single audit runs alongside the financial audit, so the district gets one engagement and one set of findings.
PEIMS Accuracy and TEA Review
State law requires the audit to test the fiscal data the district reports through PEIMS. TEA reviews audit reports and can review working papers, so documentation gets built to that standard.

Texas Franchise Tax CPA for Growing Businesses
Owners look for a Texas franchise tax CPA when revenue approaches the no-tax-due threshold, when a notice arrives, or when the company starts selling into other states. At that point the margin method you choose can change the bill materially.
Advisory engagements cover margin method modeling, EZ computation decisions, nexus reviews for companies expanding beyond Texas, and entity structure decisions before the next report comes due.
One conversation scopes it. Schedule a free consultation and bring your last report.
No Income Tax Does Not Mean No Filing
Texas LLCs and corporations owe the state an annual report even at zero tax. Missing it brings penalties and, eventually, the loss of the right to do business in Texas.

Texas tax questions
Does Texas have a state income tax?
Texas has no personal income tax. Most LLCs, corporations, and partnerships with liability protection still owe the franchise tax, which applies to taxable margin and requires an annual report due May 15.
What is the Texas franchise tax no-tax-due threshold for 2026?
For 2026 and 2027 reports, entities with annualized total revenue at or under $2.65 million owe no franchise tax. They still must file a Public Information Report or an Ownership Information Report, since the No Tax Due Report was discontinued starting with reports due in 2024.
Does my Texas business need to collect sales tax?
If it sells taxable goods or taxable services, yes. Texas charges 6.25% statewide, local jurisdictions can add up to 2%, and the combined rate tops out at 8.25%. You collect at the rate where the sale happens and file on the schedule the Comptroller assigns.
